PSA Singapore handled 44.5 million TEUs in 2025, with a global network connecting to 600 ports through daily sailings.
SINGAPORE – PSA Singapore’s Tuas Port has handled 25 million 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) since beginning operations in September 2022, marking another major milestone in the development of the world’s largest fully automated container terminal.
A TEU is the standard unit used in the shipping and logistics industry to measure container capacity. One TEU is equivalent to the volume of a standard 20-foot shipping container.
The milestone demonstrates Tuas Port’s ability to scale its automated operations efficiently and handle growing global cargo volumes. It also reinforces Singapore’s role as a key maritime hub, helping to manage shifting trade flows and strengthen supply chain resilience amid geopolitical and trade disruptions.
The facility currently operates 14 berths and is on track to expand to 18 by 2027, PSA said on Aug 6.
PSA International group chief executive Ong Kim Pong said increasingly complex global trade patterns have made stronger coordination across ports and supply chain networks more important than ever.
Tuas Port is a key part of PSA’s “Node to Network” strategy, connecting Singapore’s transshipment operations with the company’s wider global port network. PSA said the strategy will support Singapore’s position as the world’s leading container transshipment hub.
Regional Investment Needed
The Tuas Port milestone comes as a World Bank study published in late July highlighted the need for ports across East Asia and the Pacific to increase investment. The region is estimated to require US$12 billion (S$15.4 billion) in annual investment between 2025 and 2040 to improve port efficiency and expand capacity.
